SIPROTEC 5 - ANSI 87 B Busbar differential protection. (H-SIP5RB)

Objectives

  • In this 1-day course, you will learn how to use DIGSI 5 to program a central or a decentralized busbar differential protection system for monitoring the entire busbar for a substation in the SIPROTEC 5 range. This course focuses on the protection function itself, the settings that can be made and their meaning. But it also covers how to test this function in practice with an OMICRON test case and how to deal with the online display of the measurements.

Type Face-to-face training
Duration 1 day

Target Group

  • This course is intended for persons involved in the engineering process, the determination of the settings, the programming, and the reading of busbar differential protections of the SIPROTEC 5 series. Engineers, commissioners and maintenance technicians.

Content

    • The principle of the SIPROTEC version 5 (central unit) and SIPROTEC version 5 (bay or merger units).
    • The ANSI 87B busbar differential protection in the SIPROTEC 5 protections.
    • End faults, zones and disconnector image. (Choice of a busbar differential)
    • The ultimate busbar protection.
    • Application of the end fault protection within the coupling bays is necessary!
    • The theory of busbar differential protection.
    • Introduction, function overview, hardware and function splitting, communication and configuration, theory of differential protection, fault response protections, protection algorithms, 3 of 3 trip control, stabilization, 1 out of 1 method, 2 out of 2 method, Fourier filter method, external faults and internal faults, check zone, disconnector simulation, bay assignment, breaker failure protection, coupling bay dead zone, TPZ core, end fault protection, CT requirements.
    • Applications:
      • End fault protection.
      • Time synchronization of phase measurements for the PMU.
      • IEEE1588 master clock for process bus applications.
      • Distributed busbar protection 7SS85 for more than 14 measurements.
      • Network configurations for a 7SS85 with up to 45 Measurement Points.
      • IEEE1588 PTP solution for IEC 61850 Process bus.
      • Selection of SIPROTEC 5 with PMU functionality.
      • 7SS85 expansion with 6MD8x.
    • Testing of busbar differential protections example.

Prerequisites

  • Basic knowledge of the different types of protections as covered in the H-BM or H-BI course. Knowledge of SIPROTEC 5 and DIGSI 5 as covered in the SIPROTEC 5 Basic Course with DIGSI 5 and the knowledge from the ADD-ON IEC 61850 course for the SIPROTEC 5.

Note

    1. This course is a course based on the specific busbar differential protection functions within the SIPROTEC 5 and contains a lot of theory. That is why it is more of a following than actively participating on your own or a training PC.
    2. It has been deliberately chosen to deal only with the central and decentralized versions, the combined version that is also possible is not discussed as it should also deal with linking to Mergers of third parties and there is currently no example of this. We expect that an extra day will have to be arranged for this in the future.
    3. If you also want to actively program yourself, we can add a separate practical day where you can get started with a central rail differential protection and a training PC or your own PC, provided that the correct software is installed on it.
    4. For busbar differential protection testing, a separate day for an additional session of the OMICRON course is recommended.
    5. This course can be scheduled from 4 people. For more information or special requests, please contact the Power Academy.
