SIPROTEC 5 ANSI-Motorfunctions general, (H-SIP5MB)

  • In this 1-day course you will learn how to use DIGSI 5 to program a motor protection for the monitoring of motors in the SIPROTEC 5 protection devices. This course focuses on the protection function itself, the settings that can be made and their meaning. But it also covers how to test this function in practice with an OMICRON testing unit and how to deal with the online display of the measurements.

Type Face-to-face training
Duration 1 day
Language nl

Target Group

  • This course is intended for persons involved in the engineering process, the determination of the settings, the programming, and the reading of motor protections of the SIPROTEC 5 series. Engineers, commissioners and maintenance technicians.

Content

    • Theory of Motor Protection.
      • The characteristics and connection options of the motor.
      • The asynchronous motor, aging of the motor and losses in the motor.
      • Different ways of switching. Power switch, load switch or contactor, behind a transformer, behind a star/triangle switching circuit, via a controller.
      • The link between the protection function and the CB internally.
      • Disturbed operation of an engine.
      • Current areas and voltage measurements for protections to be used around a motor.
    • The working areas of the motor.
    • Guarding these areas against errors.
      • Standstill, running, overload, starting, short-circuit area and the slowdown area.
      • Challenges in setting up the motor protection.
        • If all data is known, if no or little data is known, help with optimization, the balancing act between the protection philosophy and testing it.
        • Display of protection areas related to the tests.
      • The maximum overcurrent time protection ANSI is 50(N)(s) and 51(N)(s).
      • The various specific motor protections.

    • OCC Testing of the motor functions.
    • Conclusion.

Prerequisites

  • Basic knowledge of the different types of protection as covered in the H-BM or H-BI course. Knowledge of SIPROTEC 5 and DIGSI 5 as covered in the SIPROTEC 5 Basic Course with DIGSI 5.

Note

    1. This course is based on the specific motor protection functions within the SIPROTEC 5 and contains a lot of theory. That is why it is more of a following than actively participating on your own or a training PC.
    2. If you also want to actively program yourself, we can add a separate practical day where you can get started with a motor protection and your own data for the motor and a training PC or your own PC, provided the correct software is installed on it.
    3. For motor protection testing, a separate day for an additional session of the OMICRON course is recommended.
    4. This course can be scheduled from 4 people. For more information or special requests, please contact the Power Academy.
