BEng (Hons) in Manufacturing Systems Engineering – Siemens and Liverpool John Moores University one-year top up degree

 

Siemens SITRAIN are very pleased to be working in partnership with Liverpool John Moores University on the delivery of a new, top-up degree programme; a BEng (Hons) in Manufacturing Systems Engineering.

This degree has a flexible delivery model to suit industry needs and minimise time off the job. It includes content developed and delivered by Siemens SITRAIN, as well as expertise and knowledge provided by Liverpool John Moores University combining academic content with industry relevant content and certification.

This programme has been created as a CPD top-up degree for engineering professionals to upgrade their existing qualifications and improve their academic status. Aimed at those at HNC/HND level looking to gain new skills, experience and knowledge and study through to degree.

The programme consists of : -

Liverpool John Moores University delivery, units in

  • Manufacturing Systems - 20 credits
    Aims - The module deals with modern, world class service and manufacturing operations management and quality control. The relationship between manufacturing data and organisation in terms of planning, scheduling and cost, lean/agile manufacturing, and modern quality control management principles in world class organisation.

Learning Outcomes - After completing the module the student should be able to:

1.            Use planning and control information, data, and resources to planning an efficient
manufacturing operation.

2.            Collect and analyse data and apply statistical methods to problem solve, and
optimise a manufacturing process

3.            Design quality control systems

 

  • Industrial Management - 20 credits
    Aims - This module is designed to develop the core management techniques required to assess the economic viability of a project and to design and implement a plan to deliver it.

Learning Outcomes - After completing the module the student should be able to:

1.         Undertake a technical and economic assessment of a project

2.         Design a viable plan to organise and control the delivery of a project

3.         Explain the fundamental principles or intellectual property, and contract law

Each of the above units are delivered over a 2-week block and assessed by both exam and assignment.

Siemens SITRAIN delivery

  • Siemens Certified PLC Programmer - 40 Credits
    This comprises of Level 1 - 3, five-day training courses (TIA-PRO1, TIA-PRO2 and TIA-PRO3) plus assessment day.

Managed Project

  • A project to be completed in the workplace and managed by Liverpool John Moores University. - 40 credits
